Carrier and Bryant Recall Heat Pumps Due to Fire Hazard

Carrier Air Conditioning, the HVAC manufacturing giant and mother company of Bryant air conditioners announced this week that they are recalling approximately 23,000 AC / Heat Pump units due to a possible fire hazard.

According to reports, the selected units were shipped with a capacitor which can overheat and create a fire hazard. Anyone with a Carrier or Bryant air conditioner manufactured between June 2011 and August 2016 is advised to check the nameplate (located on the outdoor condenser) to see if their unit is being recalled.

Models from both the Carrier “Greenspeed”, and Bryant “Evolution Extreme” are included in the recall, and include the following 2-ton through 5-ton units:

Carrier Greenspeed – Models; 25VNA060, 25VNA048, 25VNA036, and 25VNA024

Bryant Evolution Extreme – Models; 280ANV060, 280ANV048, 280ANV036, 280ANV024

According to a statement released by Carrier, the affected units were sold all over the country by both Carrier and Bryant Dealers including Phoenix, AZ, as well as through big box retailers including Sears. People who own this equipment can contact the manufacturer who will provide the replacement parts for free – to be installed by a certified HVAC Service Technician.
