Lennox XP20 Heat Pump

Lennox XP20 Heat Pump

The XP20 is a member of Lennox’s “Elite” product family which is their mid-tier group of products. While Lennox might classify it as their “better”, its specs. stack up to many of their manufacturing competitors “best”. We really like the value this model brings to the table when comparing variable speed heat pump units.

Lennox XP20 Heat Pump Efficiency Ratings

  • SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) ratings as high as 23.5 in cooling
  • HSPF (Heating Season Performance Factor) ratings as high as 10.0

The XP20 is only 3.5 SEER less than the premium Lennox XP25 which is roughly 5% less efficient. Not bad considering that makes it equally as efficient as Trane’s premium Xv20i and more efficient than Bosch’s premium variable speed heat pump. There’s a lot of value in this model!

Variable Speed Inverter Driven Compressor

The inverter controlled variable speed compressor in the Lennox XP20 is capable of running at 65-speeds. This way, less energy is wasted when its not needed but it can take care of business when the heat is on! Lennox advertises this technology as “sixty-five air conditioners in one”.

More precisely, the XP20 can ramp down to 35% of its total perfromance ability 1% at a time, or it can ramp up 1% of the time as it gets hotter. Obviously this is one of the main reasons the XP20 is so efficient, however it has another benefit. These slight adjustments all this model to maintain precise temperatures throughout your home to within 1/2 a degree of your set temperature. In other words, no more wide temperature swings throughout the day – just set it and forget it.

Lennox XP20 Noise Levels

Lennox corners the market in the “quiet” category. The have more “best in class” models than all of their competitors when it comes to low noise ratings. While this isn’t one of them, it’s pretty darn quiet! The XP20 is rated as low as 65dB (decibels) which is about 5dB louder than two people right next to each other talking.

Humidity Control / Removal

But it’s a dry heat. That may be the most cliché statement of our lifetime when describing the summer here in Phoenix, AZ. Residents here know about summer monsoon and the humidity it brings with it. You don’t need that much humidity to make 110+ degrees feel even worse! However, studies have shown that the temperature feels approximately 8-degrees warmer to us when we have high humidity. Which is why we want to remove excess humidity from our indoor spaces here as well.

There is a direct correlation between human comfort and humidity levels, and what most people do not realize is the humidity inside your home is not the same as the outdoor humidity. Everyday activities contribute to the humidity in your home. Things like people showering, cooking, and how many people live in the home contribute to indoor humidity levels. Well-sealed homes do not allow humidity to escape the structure, so that job is left to the air conditioner to handle.

The XP20 is designed to provide excellent humidity removal. According to Lennox, this model removes approximately thirty percent more humidity from the air than a traditional single-stage air conditioner, making the air feel “lighter and more comfortable” in the summer months.

Full Wi-Fi Programmable Control

The XP20 comes standard with the Lennox iComfort Wi-Fi Thermostat. This system is fully-communicating, meaning the indoor unit, outdoor unit, and thermostat are constantly sending a signal back in forth for optimal performance.

For those who want to take things a step further, this unit can be operated by the gorgeous Lennox S30 Wi-Fi Ultra-Smart Thermostat, a full color beauty reminiscent of an Apple iPad. The features of this thermostat go far beyond most every thermostat on the market today, and even includes a “feels like” feature that accounts for everything from temperature to humidity to provide the ultimate home comfort experience.

Lennox XP20 Summary

We love the bang for the buck the XP20 delivers! Considering it is grouped in with Lennox’s “better” tier (Elite) products, but its specs. are equal to or better than competitor brands “best” – it’s a great buy.

The XP20 is newer to the Lennox lineup and is quickly moving up the ranks top becoming one of our best selling models in this category. The feedback we see on customer surveys from people who have purchased this model are overwhelmingly positive. It’s quiet, ultra-efficient, and is backed by the Lennox name. We give it high marks on all accounts!

Are You Interested in Lennox XP20 Installation?

Choosing a new cooling and heating system is a 10-15 year plus commitment (unless you choose the wrong installing company). We work in thousands of homes around the Phoenix valley each year and unfortunately see the discomfort, aggravation, and expense their owners deal with when the whole “system” was designed and installed improperly.

Aside from things like free maintenance, an ACCA approved Manual J load calculation, optimized airflow design, and more, there are many things that set a Magic Touch Mechanical installation apart from the others: What’s Included With This Installation?
